Chief Chinakila of the Lungu people has allocated land to the Zambia National Service (ZNS) for agricultural development in Northern Province.

ZNS Deputy Commander, Major General Reuben Mwewa, disclosed the development when he paid a courtesy call on Northern Province Minister Leonard Mbao in Kasama.

Maj. Gen. Mwewa said the land would be assessed before any farming activities begin.

“We are taking a proactive step to scale up food production, especially after the poor rains experienced last year that caused food shortages in some areas,” said Maj. Gen. Mwewa.

In response, Northern Province Minister Leonard Mbao commended ZNS and other defence wings for their role in securing food supply and supporting agricultural growth.

“The contribution of the military to food security is commendable. We are seeing a positive shift in production due to good agricultural policies,” Mr Mbao said.
