One person has died while another sustained injuries in an ox-cart accident in Chitemuna village, Mpika district, Muchinga Province.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Dennis Moola confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on June 8, 2025, around 08:30 hours, about 1 kilometer off the Mpika-Kasama road, west of Mpika Boma.

Mr. Moola said Mathews Kabaye, 26, who was controlling the ox-cart with two passengers on board, escaped unhurt.

He added that Obadiah Kangwa, 16, sustained fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mpika Urban Clinic.

Mr. Moola says Kangwa’s body has been deposited into the Mpika Urban Clinic mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

He says another passenger, identified as James Mulenga 14, sustained painful injuries to both legs and was treated as an outpatient at Mpika Urban Clinic.

Mr. Moola explained that the incident occurred when the ox-cart lost control due to unknown circumstances, hit a tree, causing the passengers to fall off, and later flipped and overturned, trapping them underneath.
