THE Socialist Party (SP)’s hopes of claiming the Kimasala Ward seat in Solwezi, North-Western Province, have been relinquished after its candidate went missing yesterday during the filing of nominations in the by-election.
SP North-Western provincial youth chairman Stephen Likuwa says Francis Fungameli disappeared with no trace.
Mr Likuwa told journalists yesterday at the nomination centre hosted at Solwezi Trades: “We were with him on Monday evening and he requested to go home around 22:00 hours.
We started calling him on Tuesday (yesterday) at 06:00 hours, the candidate has been unreachable, failing to pick calls, and his family is equally in the dark about his whereabouts,” he said.
Only two political parties successfully filed their nominations for the Kimasala seat.
Citizens First (CF) candidate Webster Kyabala was the first to present his credentials at 11:40 hours followed by United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Philip Tapula around 13:00 hours.
