The UK government has praised Zambia Sugar as a flagship example of United Kingdom (UK) investment driving inclusive growth in Zambia.
Lord Edward Ray Collins, the UK Minister for Africa, visited the Zambia Sugar Nakambala factory and plantation in Mazabuka Thursday afternoon, highlighting the company’s significant contributions to job creation, economic growth and export earnings.
Lord Collins emphasized that Zambia Sugar exemplifies the strong UK-Zambia partnership, focused on shared goals such as climate-smart agriculture, water management and economic development.
He assured that the UK government will continue to support and consolidate investments like Zambia Sugar to create lasting impact for local communities.
The Minister also commended Zambia Sugar’s investment in green energy, particularly its diversification of power generation to mitigate climate change effects.
He noted that the UK government prioritizes long-term sustainable power generation, citing Zambia Sugar’s self-power generation as a notable example.
And Zambia Sugar PLC Managing Director, Oswald Magwenzi, welcomed the visit, saying the company acknowledges the British government’s investment in Zambia.
He emphasized that British investment in Zambia Sugar demonstrates the UK’s commitment to employment creation and economic development in Africa.
Lord Collins was accompanied by Zambia’s High Commissioner to the UK, her Excellency Ms Macenje Mazoka and British High Commissioner to Zambia, her Excellency Ms Rebecca Terzeon.
