Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele has commended Nigerian actor Mr Modestus Onyekwere,popularly known as Kanayo O Kanayo for his immense contributions to Africa’s creative and entertainment industry.

During a courtesy call at Army Headquarters in Lusaka today, 24 June, 2025, Lt Gen Zyeele praised Mr Kanayo for providing entertainment, creating jobs and mentoring emerging talents.

“You have supported local economies and mentored emerging talents. Your journey serves as an inspiration to young aspiring actors, producers and writers,” Lt Gen Zyeele said.

He added that Mr Kanayo has encouraged the next generation to pursue their dreams in the entertainment industry.

The Commander Zambia Army also highlighted the Army’s efforts in promoting arts and cultural heritage through the Military Customs and Arts Directorate, emphasising that art is an integral part of military traditions.

He expressed hope that Mr Kanayo’s visit will strengthen Zambia-Nigeria friendship and cooperation.

Lt Gen Zyeele noted that Mr Kanayo has not only provided entertainment to various groups but has created jobs for crew members, actors and associated industry professionals.

“As Zambia Army, we are engaged in promoting arts and our rich cultural heritage through our Military Customs and Arts Directorate. Art has always been an integral aspect of the military traditions,” he said.

And Mr Kanayo expressed happiness that he is in Zambia today adding that his mission is to unlock the potential of young people in the creative and Arts industry.

He said the creative and entertainment industry is the new oil industry where many creative and talented youths are earning millions of dollars.

“Iam looking forward to see young people engaged in economic activities like acting and music. The industry is not only for making people laugh and clap, but is a serious money spinner through which young people can empower themselves,” he added.

Mr Kanayo will be the key note speaker tomorrow at the ‘Creative and Art Conference’ which will be graced by her Honour the Republican Vice President, Mrs Mutale Nalumango in Lusaka.
