Troops from 48 Marine Unit were yesterday subjected to physical fitness evaluation exercise, crucial, to assessing their levels of physical fitness, and to maintain the high standards expected in every Special Forces Operative.
The evaluation exercise, whose aim was to ensure all Operatives meet the rigorous physical fitness standards, necessary for operational effectiveness and combat readiness, included a myriad of activities such as;the coverage of a distance of 15 kilometres in 35 minutes while carrying weights of 15 kilogrammes; performing over 180 push-ups, and doing more than 220 sit-ups within two minutes.
The Unit’s Second-in- Command, Lieutenant Colonel Fred Kasaro, emphasised the importance of adhering to the established standards.
He urged the marines that their life is characterised by a lot of physical activities, and continued training as they are at all times expected to be engaged.
Lt Col Kasaro told the Operatives that the only time a member of the Special Forces Corps is expected to rest is when they retire from active service or die, but that they can still be recalled even in retirement to perform national duties.
