A magistrate heard how medics could not termínatè a 23-week pregnancy of a 14-year-old girl allegedly impregnated by her father, a Zambia Air Force (ZAF) flight sergeant, because doing so would put the life of the teenager in danger.
Nelly Simwiinde, 38, a clinical officer, testified that the teenager’s mother, Mrs Chansa (not real name), who was shocked about the suspected incestuous pregnancy, asked if it could be termínatèd.
“…because of the state of the mother, the station medical officer and I decided to take the girl [victim] to Maina Soko Military Hospital for a scan so that we are sure of the actual months of the pregnancy.
“The mother, daughter and one of the medical personnel were dispatched to Maina Soko, where the scan was done and it came out that she was 23 weeks and five days pregnant,” Ms Simwiinde said.
This is in a case a 41-year old man is charged with incest after he allegedly had s£x with his 14-year-old daughter, who was later discovered pregnant.
