A 41-Year-Old Man in Chief Chanje’s Chiefdom, Chipangali District of Eastern Province, has taken his own lífe under unclear circumstances by hanging himself in a grass-thatched kitchen.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred yesterday, 13th August 2025, at 22:00 hours in Mugubudu Village.
Brief facts of the matter are that, on the material day, Paniso Banda, the now-deceased, was in good health and had lunch and supper with his wife, Naomi Nkhoma, and their five children.
Mr Mweemba says that around 21:00 hours, the family went to bed. The deceased later woke up and went outside the house and when he returned, his wife asked where he had been, but he did not respond and went back to bed.
The Police Commissioner says his wife later fell asleep and, when she woke again around 22:00 hours, found her husband missing.
He says that when she went outside the house to check, she found him hanging inside a grass-thatched kitchen about a few metres from their main house.
Mr Mweemba says the wife immediately informed a neighbour, who notified a relative.
He says police officers visited the scene and found the body hanging with a string from the hood of the coat he was wearing.
He says no physical injuries were observed, and the body was surrendered to the family members for burial.
