Zambian sprinter Rhoda Njobvu has expressed suspicion towards her coach and ex-partner for purportedly leaking a private video that features her and another female athlete.
This incident has sparked a national debate on safeguarding athletes in the country. As cited in Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya’s report, Njobvu asserts that the coach’s demands for her to record the video led to her recording it.
The coach admitted to the relationship but denied the allegations of leaking the video, denying responsibility and claiming it was leaked by a different female athlete. As a result of the investigation, both Njobvu and athlete Sergeant Katundu Lumweka were arrested for Production of Obscene Materials.
Njobvu was additionally charged with Circulation of Obscene Materials. The two have been released on bond but both have suspended national duty. It is also reported that the coach has made similar propositions towards two other athletes.
