A 50-Year-Old Man in Lumezi District of the Eastern Province is counting his blessings after being rescued from the jaws of a crocodile in the Luangwa River, where he had gone fishing.
The victim has been identified as Frackson Lungu from Chief Chitungulu’s Chiefdom.
According to brief facts of the matter, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at around 09:00 hours, the victim and his friend, Brian Zulu, 34, went to the Luangwa River, where they had camped for fishing activities.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba says that on Monday, August 18, 2025, around 21:00 hours, the two men got into a canoe and started their fishing activities.
Mr. Mweemba says the incident occurred when Mr. Lungu, the victim, came out of the canoe to pull the net, and a crocodile grabbed his left leg, trying to drag him into the deep water.
He says fortunately, the victim was rescued by his friend, who hit the crocodile until it released him.
The victim sustained multiple deep cuts on his left leg and was rushed to Chitungulu Clinic for treatment, where he was later referred to Lumezi District Hospital.
Mr. Mweemba says due to the seriousness of his condition, Mr. Lungu has been further referred to Chipata General Hospital for further treatment.
