The Copperbelt University (CBU) School of Medicine has been thrown into mourning following the confirmation that body parts discovered yesterday near Hillcrest Clinic belong to one of its students.

Authorities have identified the remains as those of Fred Kapuku, a final-year MBChB student who had been missing for several days. His identity was confirmed after fellow clinical students, who noticed his absence, alerted the student union and proceeded to the mortuary where the discovery was verified.

The union immediately informed the police, management, and Kapuku’s family. Law enforcement officers and a forensic team have since launched investigations into the gruesome incident, and the public has been urged to provide any information that may assist in the case.

Union representatives described Kapuku as a humble, soft-spoken, and friendly student who was deeply involved in politics and student leadership. He previously contested for union presidency, served as a class representative, and was at the time of his death serving as President of COBUMEDSA.

“This brutal and barbaric act calls for justice,” the student union stated, adding that the CBU community is united in grief and prayer for Kapuku’s family and friends.

Details regarding the funeral and a candlelight service at the School of Medicine will be announced in due course, while the institution awaits an official statement from management.
