Two people, including an expectant mother, have been hospitalized after being hit by a motorbike in Chief Kambombo’s Chiefdom, Chama District, Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred yesterday, Sunday, August 17, 2025, around 00:15 hours along the Chama-Matumbo Road in Kapalankonje Village.

The incident involved an unregistered KingLion motorbike ridden by Sabu Kaluba, 30, who was traveling from north to south and sustained no injuries.

Mr. Mweemba said the accident happened due to the rider’s inexperience, resulting in a loss of control of the motorbike, which then hit the people seated beside the road.

Mr. Mweemba said Moreen Botha, 17, an expectant mother, sustained bruises on her back and pain in her right hand. He added that Alex Kumwenda, 20, sustained pain in his left ribs and back.

The two victims were rushed to Chama District Hospital, where they have been admitted and are receiving treatment.
