A dozen suspects have been apprehended in Chinsali for attempting to conduct a witchcraft ceremony at the mausoleum of Lumpa Church matriarch Alice Lenshina. Officers say the ringleader, a Tanzanian witch-finder identified only as Nkungulupe, managed to flee. His analyst Joseph Lameck, 28, translator Mutale Shadrick, 23, and village chief Laston Katongo, 47, were recorded among the detained.
Later, nine locals attempted to force the release of the suspects by invading Chinsali Central Police. Their actions culminated in further arrests. Muchinga Police Commissioner Denis Moola has issued a decisive ultimatum: any witch-finding methods will be trailer-parked, and the search for Nkungulupe will continue.
