One person has died, and another has been injured in a Road Traffic Accident involving two motorcycles that collided in Lundazi District of the Eastern Province.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba stated that the accident occurred yesterday, August 21, 2025, around 16:00 hours in the Kakumba area, about 20 kilometers south of Lundazi Boma along the Lundazi-Chipata road.
The deceased has been identified as Ishmael Kamanga, a security guard at Kakumba Health Post, who was riding an unregistered Isuzu motorcycle from north to south.
Mr. Kamanga sustained fatal head injuries and a fractured left arm, and he died on the spot.
His body has been deposited into Lundazi District Hospital mortuary.
Also involved was an unregistered Savaja motorcycle, which was being ridden by Samuel Nyirenda, 43, from south to north.
Mr. Nyirenda sustained minor bruises on both hands.
However, his passenger, Nelson Nyirenda, 63, is suspected to have internal injuries and is admitted to Lundazi District Hospital.
Mr. Mweemba says Mr. Nyirenda has been detained for riding an unregistered motorcycle and without a license.
He says the accident happened when the deceased, Mr. Kamanga, turned right without due care, colliding with the Savaja motorcycle, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
