By Ellen Hambuba Energy Minister Makozo Chikote has assured the nation that Zambia has sufficient fuel stocks to meet current demand.

Mr. Chikote revealed that, as of Thursday, 21st August 2025, the national diesel reserves stood at 6.8 million litres—enough to cover 14 days of consumption.

He clarified that the reported fuel shortages are localized and primarily caused by supply chain bottlenecks.

The Minister stated that the government, in collaboration with the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and other stakeholders, is actively working to stabilize and normalize the market.

Mr. Chikote added that both short-term and long-term measures are being implemented to ensure a stable and predictable fuel supply.

Among these measures, the ERB is intensifying on-the-spot inspections and closely monitoring TAZAMA to ensure fuel uplifts reach their intended destinations, particularly retail consumers.

He also emphasized that the government will facilitate timely fuel imports through the TAZAMA Open Access system to strengthen national reserves.
