Vice President, Mutale Nalumanago, has reiterated the need for concerted efforts by various stakeholders in the fight against malaria across the country.
Ms Nalumango is worried that the country is recording 30,000 new cases of Malaria daily which are resulting in the death of two to five people every day, thereby threatening economic productivity.
She has lamented that about 80 percent of malaria-related deaths in the country occur among pregnant women and infants.
The Vice President said this yesterday in a speech read for her by Mazabuka Member of Parliament, Garry Nkombo at the End Malaria Council (EMC) Golf Day Fundraiser in Mazabuka District.
“Mazabuka is a malaria free zone, despite that we cannot be comfortable when our fellow citizens elsewhere, pregnant women and infants included, are dying of malaria,” said Ms Nalumango.
She charged that malaria does not only feed on the general wellbeing of people but has also an effect on socio-economic dynamics.
Ms Nalumango encouraged various stakeholders to work together to eradicate malaria.
End Malaria Council Chairperson, Godwin Beene, said the fight against malaria is not over and will only be won if various stakeholders continue working together.
Meanwhile, Zambia Sugar Representative, Ackson Tembo, said the company is proud to be part of the sponsors of the tournament.
