Yona Musukwa shares:I have been listening to The Zambia We Want spokesperson Muhabi Lungu’s last 4 interviews.

Muhabi seems keen on formation of an alliance, and consistently singles out CF President Harry Kalaba.‎‎

Muhabi Lungu may genuinely seek opposition alliance but he is going about it the wrong way, and presupposes that an alliance guarantees victory in 2026.‎‎

Firstly, ceteris paribus, the route taken by Harry Kalaba is the most sensible and the most politically correct route.‎‎

Before forming an alliance with others, a political party must have something to bring to the table. The current state of these nashala neka parties is neither encouraging nor assuring, despite the ground being very fertile for a revolution.

‎‎It is an illusion that 10 weak political parties, with no people, no structure, no plan, no strategy, just individual lóud mòuths with inflàted egòs, forming an alliance is all that is needed to win 2026 elections.‎‎

Each individual political party must justify and quantify what it is bringing to the table, to make the table strong. People have formed míckey mòuse political parties as special purpose vehicles to enter government via yakumbuyo aka alliances.

‎‎Agreed, the biggest opposition anywhere in the world is the people. But the people’s aspirations are chiseled and channelled through structured formations like political parties, to transform people power into electoral power.‎‎

You don’t need to be a political scientist to know and detect the high levels of disgruntlement in the country. But this hungèr and angèr does not automatically warrant electoral success just because an alliance is in place. It needs mass mobilisation, panel beating and electioneering.

‎‎’Alliancing’ alone is not enough, neither is it the panacea for 2026. Political wisdom, tactical and strategic thinking, and scientific approach is needed to unite, mobilise and join forces.

Without that, Harry Kalaba is correct to pursue 2026 alone. Better than tagging along people who are adding nothing substantial to the alliance.‎‎
