Police in Chadiza District of Eastern Province have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly rápíng his 18-year-old stepdaughter.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on August 24, 2025, around 22:00 hours in Chief Mlolo’s Chiefdom.
According to brief facts of the matter, on August 23, 2025, around 16:00 hours, Misozi Banda left her two daughters at home and attended a Chinamwali traditional ceremony, leaving them in the custody of their stepfather, January Phiri.
Mr. Phiri allegedly took advantage of the mother’s absence, dragged the elder stepdaughter to his bedroom, and rápéd her.
The next morning, the victim informed her grandmother, Adesy Banda, about the incident, and her grandmother later informed her mother when she returned from the ceremony.
A docket has been opened for further investigation.
