The Lundazi Town Council has closed Yalelo Fish Shop after a routine inspection uncovered serious breaches of food safety and public health regulations.

Council officials said the inspection revealed 800.6 kilograms of spoiled fish valued at K61,638.19. Inspectors also found that the shop had no temperature monitoring chart to verify cold-chain control, while the refuse bin was not airtight and emitted a foul odour. The roof area was heavily soiled with cobwebs.

“These conditions pose a clear risk to public health and food safety,” the council stated.

The closure took effect immediately and will remain in force until all corrective measures are implemented and verified by public health officers.

Lundazi Town Council Public Relations Officer, Neema Nsamba, said the authority is committed to ensuring that all food businesses in the district operate under safe and hygienic conditions.

She further urged members of the public to report any concerns regarding food safety to the Council’s Health Department.
