A 38-year-old man of George Compound in Lusaka has been sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment with hard labour for assaulting a Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company employee.

The convict, identified as Teza Chipako, was arrested in Kabwe on August 5, 2025, after attacking Gaston Bwalya during a lawful water disconnection exercise in Lilanda on June 28, 2025.

Chipako pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala at the Lusaka Magistrate Court.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company Public Relations Manager Ruth Mukuwa welcomed the conviction, saying the utility condemns all forms of violence, intimidation, or harassment against its workers, who are legally mandated to carry out service-related duties.

“Such acts will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will face the full force of the law, as demonstrated in this case,” said Ms. Mukuwa in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka.

She further reminded customers that while water is a human right, it is also an economic good that must be paid for to ensure sustainable service delivery.
