By ZR Staffer A 40-Year-old man has been burnt to death in Chief Tembwe’s Chiefdom in Chama District of Eastern Province, on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba stated that the incident occurred between September 5, 2025, around 14:00 hours, and September 6, 2025, around 10:00 hours, in Lwambo village.
Mr. Mweemba says that Ngalaba Gondwe reported today that his son, Rodgious Gondwe, was murdered by unknown individuals on allegations of being behind the death of an 18-year-old boy who had passed away in the village.
He says that before the incident on September 5 around 14:00 hours, the deceased, Mr. Gondwe, was alerted by a headman in the village that some people from Masiye Nyirongo’s funeral were planning to kill him, alleging that he was behind Nyirongo’s death.
He says shortly after the village headman left, a group of people arrived, and Mr. Gondwe attempted to escape, but he was followed by the group to an unknown location.
The Police Commissioner says that Mr. Gondwe’s body was found half-burnt in the bush on September 6 around 10:00 hours by villagers who were searching for him.
He says a docket has been opened, and investigations have been instituted into the matter.
