A 22-year old mentally challenged woman of Mlamba Village in Lumezi District of Eastern Province has been been s£xually abused by a 35-year-old man, identified as Duncan Zulu.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said that, on Wednesday September 3, the victim around 16:00 hours, went to visit her elder brother at Chitungulu Trading area which is at the Main Market.
The victim never returned home that day and this alarmed the grandmother, 62-year-old Everina Mwanza who immediately launched a search.
It was Morning the following day,, and there was no sight of her 22-year-old granddaughter.
At about 08:00 hours, the elder brother to the victim had gone to visit, Alick Banda, another local appeared with the victim and told her grandmother that they had caught Duncan having unlawful carnal knowledge of the 22-year-old.
He narrated that he separated the suspect from the victim on appearance at the scene.
On hearing this, the victim’s 62-year-old grandmother rushed to Lumezi Police Post, and reported the incident.
Mr. Mweemba said acting on the grandmother’s report, his officers swung into action and apprehended the suspect after issuing medical forms to the victim so she could access medical attention.
Following interrogations, Police arrested and placed the suspect in custody, before he was transferred to Lundazi Police Station.
Mweemba says the victim’s grandmother reported the incident yesterday, September 5.
