Dear Honorable Minister ,As a concerned citizen and teacher, I write to request your office to make *méntal health education* a core part of Zambia’s school curriculum. Mental wellbeing is just as important as physical health, yet many students silently struggle with stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.
*Countries Leading by Example:
* *United Kingdom* : Mental health education compulsory since 2020
*Australia* : Programs like KidsMatter and MindMatters support student wellbeing
*Canada* (Ontario): Teachers trained to support mental health in schools
*United States* (NY & VA): Mental health integrated into health classes and social-emotional learning
*India* : Life skills modules teach stress management and peer support
*New Zealand* : Hauora approach covering mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health
*Singapore* : Character and Citizenship Education includes mental health literacy
*Kenya* : CBC integrates social-emotional learning and mental health awareness
Why Zambia Needs This:
✅ Equip students with coping strategies for stress and anxiety
✅ Identify mental health challenges early and provide support
✅ Reduce stigma and create supportive school environments
✅ Build resilient, socially responsible future citizensIt is time for our schools to prioritize mental health just like any other subject. Let’s give our children the knowledge, tools, and support they need to thrive.
*Honorable Minister* , we respectfully request your office to take action and make mental health education a reality in Zambia.
