Over 70 cases of défilement have been been recorded in Eastern Province between January and September compared to the same period last year, where about 50 cases were reported.

In most cases, Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba says the myth that people with H!V positive status can get cur£d after having s£x with juveniles is topping among the noticed reasons for the rise in the number of éfilement cases.

Now, a 47-year-old man of Lumezi District in Chief Mwanya is nursing wounds after he attempted to increase statistics of défilement cases in the Province.

Moses Nyirenda, uncle to the victim, yesterday lured into the bush, his 9-year-old niece, with intentions of dêflowering her.

Mweemba narrates to TV Yatu that, the victim had gone to play with friends in Kalonda Village and that, on her way back, she met her uncle Moses who asked her to escort him to claim móney.

Commissioner Mweemba says on the way to collect this supposed money, Moses grabbed the victim by the hand, and later swept her off feet. He says the victim was stripped nak£d, and on trying to force himself into the victim, the poor girl screamed for help.

This attracted an alert lady named Estelle Zulu, who rushed to the scene and alerted other villagers.

She pulled Moses off the minor and other residents arrived with flying kícks, sticks and all sorts of arsénals. They took turns in setting Moses as an example to other would be perpetrators of the vice.

Mweemba says the incident that started with the rescue of a minor turned out that even the suspect needed protection and so, the quick response of Community Crime Prevention Unity Officers – CCPU saved the horny uncle’s life.

He says from being rescued, Moses was locked up for indecent as@ult on the minor after it was established that he only sustained a small cut and that he was in a stable condition.

Now a journey that started as one of claiming money from unknown people, is to continue to Court where Moses will be required explain his £vil intentions on the minor.
