Over 150 emerging young leaders from across Lusaka Province on Saturday took part in a mentorship session aimed at preparing them for leadership roles.

The sessions were facilitated by Kamfinsa MP Christopher Kang’ombe at Villa Lodge, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) advocate Olivia Tutu, development practitioner Given Kapolyo and governance and international affairs specialist Mwila Bwanga.

The event — the first in a planned series under the Ideas for Development concept — brought together aspiring young leaders from diverse backgrounds to engage in interactive learning sessions and practical discussions based on real-life experiences.

During the inaugural session, the facilitators covered a range of topics, including the linkage between the SDGs and good leadership for the future, impactful public speaking for effective communication, and the processes of registering and running relevant civil society organizations.

In his keynote address, Kang’ombe thanked the three facilitators for finding time to mentor the youth while urging the energetic participants to look beyond electoral victories.

“The implemented program is key in preparing the youth for different leadership roles and will be rolled out to all the remaining nine provinces,” he said.

In addition, Kang’ombe reminded the youth that their greatest asset is not money but the ability to unite and support each other in leadership roles.

He emphasized the need to focus on sustainable contributions when given the opportunity to serve in public office, stating that effective leadership lies in promoting ideas that shape the long-term development path of countries.
