The Government has launched the upgrade of the 80-kilometre Samfya–Kasaba Road via Lubwe in Luapula Province to bitumen standard, including 5 kilometres of township roads in Lubwe. The project, costing over K937 million, will be executed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Zambia Limited in partnership with Palmetto Trading Limited.

Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi said the development reflects President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that drives economic growth, improves access to social services, and attracts investment. Known locally as the Bally Road, the upgrade is expected to enhance trade, agriculture, fisheries, and tourism in the region.

Road Development Agency Board Chair Eugene Haazele assured the public that the project would meet the highest quality standards while protecting wetlands, fisheries, and other natural resources. Contractors have also been directed to maximise local participation, ensuring communities benefit from employment and business opportunities.

Minister Milupi added that the road is part of a broader national development agenda aimed at building a Zambia where no region is left behind, using infrastructure as a key tool to accelerate economic growth and reduce poverty.
