Lusaka, October 6, 2025

The Zambia Police Service has apprehended 16 suspects, believed to be part of notorious “junkie” groups, for their alleged involvement in riotous behavior, theft, assault, and malicious damage to property. The arrests were made following a well-coordinated operation in Barlaston, Lilanda, George, and Zingalume Compounds between October 3 and 4, 2025.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 30, were arrested in connection with violent crimes that occurred on October 1, 2025, during a funeral service at Great Ministries Church in Barlaston area. A video that went viral on social media showed the perpetrators, leading to the successful operation.

The police recovered several items, including two unregistered motor vehicles, suspected cannabis, a military bayonet, a knife, a taser gun, and other items believed to have been used in the commission of the offenses.

The suspects have been charged with riotous behavior, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (OABH), theft, and malicious damage to property. They are currently in police custody awaiting court appearance.

The Zambia Police Service commended members of the public who provided valuable information that led to the successful operation and appealed for continued cooperation to rid communities of violent elements.
