Atleast one person has died and nine others sustained injuries in a series of road traffic accidents recorded across Lusaka Province, yesterday, October 4.
According to Assistant Zambia Police Service spokesman Godfrey Chilabi, the fatal accident that has k!lled a cyclist occurred yesterday around 16:00 hours along 70/70 Road near Royal Blocks Company in Matero when four unsecured iron sheets fell off a moving Toyota Hilux and struck two cyclists.
The vehicle was being driven by Wilson Daka, aged 44.
Chilabi says one of the cyclists, Wise Bowa, 23, sustained minor injuries, while the other, Kalunga Eliude, 28, was pronounced dead on arrival at the University Teaching Hospital-UTH.
He say the driver is in custody and will be charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited in the UTH mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have since urged all road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life and injury.
