Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana has dismissed as false and misleading allegations that Deputy Secretary to Cabinet Dr. Oliver Kalabo flouted procedures in the recent sale of government assets, particularly vehicles.
Mr. Kawana clarified that the vehicles in question were classified as unserviceable and obsolete, and their disposal was recommended under the Public Finance Management Law. He stated that the Survey Committee, in line with legal provisions, advised that the assets at State House be sold to employees via an internal tender process.
He further noted that the Secretary to the Treasury formally authorized Dr. Kalabo to proceed with the sale, as evidenced by a Ministry of Finance letter dated October 22, 2025.
Expressing concern over misinformation, Mr. Kawana regretted that despite the enactment of the Access to Information Law, some individuals continue to peddle falsehoods, referencing a Facebook post on the Patriotic Front (PF) page dated October 7, 2025.
