President Yoweri Museveni has issued a stern warning to teachers currently on strike over salary disparities, saying they risk losing their jobs if they do not return to class.
Speaking to residents of the Lango sub-region on Tuesday, President Museveni described the ongoing industrial action as “selfish and misplaced.” He stressed that the government already has a long-term plan to harmonize public service salaries in line with the country’s development priorities.
Teachers, under the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), went on strike on September 15, protesting what they call unfair and unequal pay within the government’s salary structure.
Museveni maintained that while the government acknowledges the teachers’ concerns, it must follow a structured process to ensure fairness across all sectors. He urged educators to prioritize their students and resume work as discussions on pay adjustments continue.
