PEMBA MAN ARRESTED FOR POSING AS ARMY OFFICER AND RECRUITING CANDIDATES ILLEGALLY
A 32-year-old man in Pemba has been arrested for impersonating a public officer by claiming to be an army officer from Kaoma Barracks in Western Province.
He was recruiting Zambia Army candidates from local schools for the 2025 training exercise.
The incident occurred around 17:20 hours on 15th October 2025.
The suspect has been named as Stanley Mwanza from Chipata district.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, says that following an alert from a member of the public, officers found the suspect wearing a green T-shirt with the words “ZAMBIA ARMY” printed on the back.
When interviewed, the suspect failed to produce any identification to confirm his employment with the Zambia Army.
He later confessed that he was not a member of any military establishment.
Daka states that the suspect has been detained in police custody.
He will be charged with Personating a Public Officer, contrary to Section 102 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
