Two people have di£d, with several others sustaining serious injuries, following a road traffic accident involving a VW Golf, Land Rover Freelander, and a Volvo Truck and Trailer in Choma.
The accident occurred on 16th October, 2025, around 18:40 hours along the Great North Road near Maleba Layby.
One of the deceased is 45-year-old Abel Kabole Chanda of Maramba in Livingstone, who was driving a south-bound VW Golf and died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries.
One of the four passengers on board the Land Rover Freelander, Veronica Chimwongo Masheta, 36, also died on the spot.
The other passengers sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the south-bound Land Rover, Emmanuel Mbokoshi, 45, of Chandamali Compound in Choma, suffered serious head injuries and the vehicle was extensively damaged.
Oliness Kachimba, aged 43, of Chandamali Compound in Choma, sustained a cut on the right eye and general body pains.
A female juvenile, Mwiitwa Masheta, aged 2, of Riverside, also suffered a cut on the right eye.
Another juvenile, Tumelo Masheta, aged 6, of Riverside in Choma, sustained a suspected fractured right hand and general body pains.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, says the accident occurred when the driver of the Volvo Truck and Trailer failed to keep to his near-side lane, colliding with the VW Golf and Land Rover Freelander.
The truck driver fled the scene.
All injured individuals have been admitted to Choma General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
