A 68-Year-Old Game Scout from Maloba Village in Mambwe District of Eastern Province has been killed by an elephant while on night patrols with three other game scouts.
The deceased has been identified as Webby Banda.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred yesterday, 18th October 2025, around 23:00 hours, about 350 meters from Millioti Wildlife Camp in Chief Nsefu’s Chiefdom.
Brief facts of the matter are that Grevazio Mbewe, a 47-year-old Game Scout from Nthantha Village and nephew to the deceased Webby Banda, who reported the matter to the police, was on night patrols with three other game scouts.
They began their patrol around 21:00 hours and headed back to the camp at about 23:00 hours for a brief break.
On their way to the camp, they encountered two herds of elephants and scattered in different directions.
Webby Banda, now deceased, ran into another herd of elephants from the opposite direction. Unfortunately, he was attacked and killed on the spot.
Both the police and Department of National Parks and Wildlife officers rushed to the scene and found that he had sustained severe injuries, including a fractured collarbone, protruding heart, intestines, and a deep cut on his head.
The body has since been deposited into Mambwe District Hospital mortuary.
