The Road Development Agency (RDA) has commenced urgent temporary repair works on the Luangwa Bridge in Kitwe, following acts of vandalism targeting the newly installed expansion joints.

Upon receiving the report yesterday, the RDA Copperbelt Provincial Office immediately deployed a team to the site.

Working through the night, the team began restoration efforts to temporarily return the bridge to a safe and operational state.

The team will continue to monitor the performance of the temporary works undertaken as the Agency is awaits the procurement of permanent works.

The vandalism occurred on the northbound section of the Luangwa Bridge, located on the Kitwe-Ndola Dual Carriageway. Notably, the expansion joints affected had only been installed in February 2025 after a similar incident earlier this year, raising concerns over recurring acts of infrastructure sabotage.

The RDA has condemned the vandalism, noting its serious threat to public safety and the integrity of critical infrastructure.

The Agency has also reiterated its commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the repair works and urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities near road infrastructure.
