The Ambassador of Czech Republic to Zambia has continued to express friendship with Zambia being based on respect, progress, and cultural exchanges.

Ambassador in a congratulatory message to Zambia on its 61st Independence Day post on ZNBC, recounted that friendship between the two countries began in the 1960s when Czechoslovakia opened one of its first six embassies in Lusaka following Zambian independence.

“Even if we opened an embassy in 2017, Zambian friendships are nothing new,” he continued to, “The friendship has endured and transcended decades, ideologies, and regions.”

He elaborated stating that relationships have extended beyond trade relationships to development relationships in agriculture, health, and education with the Czech Republic providing 20-25 scholarships every year for Zambian students to study with full funding. “We have been informed that there have been over 1,500 applications this year,” he told ZNBC.

He also reiterated that the two countries participated in the Medivac program – which encourages doctors to work with fellow doctors in Czech and Zambia. Czech interests and ownership in Zambia’s mining industry is also increasing.

The Czech Republic also supports cultural diplomacy and is inviting a concert by the Czech Opera Soprano to Lusaka. The envoy concluded with congratulating Zambia for maintaining peace and unity after 61 years.
