The United Party for National Development (UPND) has urged its aspiring candidates to refrain from de-campaigning long-serving Members of Parliament in constituencies they intend to contest, describing such actions as ill-intentioned and unacceptable to the party.

UPND National Youth Chairperson, Gilbert Liswaniso, stated that while the party does not oppose individuals aspiring for parliamentary or other positions ahead of the 2026 General Elections, it strongly condemns any tactics aimed at discrediting incumbent MPs who have served diligently over the years.

Speaking on a political podcast, Mr. Liswaniso cautioned aspiring candidates against engaging in manipulative or corrupt practices, such as offering incentives to party structures in an attempt to influence adoption decisions.

He emphasized that the party upholds discipline and respectful conduct, particularly towards long-serving MPs who continue to hold significant influence within their constituencies.

Mr. Liswaniso further stated that the UPND will only support aspirants who exhibit disciplined leadership, adding that respectful engagement is essential to fostering unity within the party ranks.
