A 16-year-old boy with a mental health problem has allegedly killed his sister-in-law and injured six others in Isoka District of Muchinga Province.

Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer Dennis Moola confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on October 23, 2025, between 07:00 hours and 08:00 hours in Mandala village, Chief Kafwimbi.

The suspect who has been suffering from a mental health problem since January 2025, had been receiving treatment at Isoka District Hospital, and his condition had recently been stable.

However, on October 23, 2025, around 07:00 hours, his condition worsened, and he became violent, picking up an axe handle and attacking his family members.

The victims include his father, Lighton Sinkala, 67, who sustained a deep cut at the back of his head, and his mother, Roster Nambela, 50, who sustained a deep cut on the forehead and a cut at the back of her head.

The boy then went to his elder brother’s place, where he hit his sister-in-law, 17-year-old Roster Nakamba, with an axe handle. He also hit three juveniles aged 10, 6, and 6, causing serious head injuries.

Steward Sinkala, the elder brother, sustained a deep cut on the head after hitting him with a wooden plank while trying to stop him from dismantling furniture.

The police rushed to the scene and found all the victims lying unconscious. They were quickly taken to Isoka District Hospital for medical treatment, where Roster Nakamba was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Mr. Moola says three juveniles and Lighton Sinkala were in critical condition, Roster Nambela’s condition was stable, and Steward Sinkala was treated as an outpatient.

The suspect has been apprehended, and a docket has been opened.
