As Zambia marks its 61st Independence Day under the theme “61 Years of Peace and Unity – Building a Resilient and Prosperous Zambia,” the University Teaching Hospital – Women and Newborn Hospital (UTHs-WNH) proudly joined the celebrations.

The hospital demonstrated its commitment to quality maternal care by donating hampers to mothers and newborns.

Dr. Mukatimui Kalima-Munalula, Senior Medical Superintendent at UTHs-WNH, emphasized the hospital’s dedication to service and compassion.

“We chose to donate to our mothers using our own resources rather than waiting for external assistance. This gesture embodies today’s theme of resilience and prosperity. Pregnancy and childbirth symbolize the profound transformation women experience in bringing life into the world, as well as the newborn’s transition from a safe environment into one that can be challenging,” she said.

The hospital recorded seven deliveries on Independence Day, including a set of twins, who were among the recipients of the hampers.

Dr. Munalula highlighted the hospital’s efforts to promote unity among employees bunch encouraging teamwork in providing equal treatment to all patients, regardless of their background.

Ms Grace Mwanza one of the Independence Day mothers expressed her gratitude for the hampers, praising the hospital’s kindness and thoughtfulness.

UTHs-WNH reaffirms its commitment to providing high-quality, respectful maternal care, serving women and newborns with excellence and compassion.
