A 32-year-old man of Kakoma Chiefdom in Mwinilunga District, Northwestern Province, has died on the spot after being struck by lightning.
Northwestern Province Police Commissioner Brighton Siwale confirmed the incident to the media today and identified the deceased as Kawewe Nyumbu, aged 32.
“Be informed that Mwinilunga Police Station received a report of sudden and unnatural death, which occurred on October 25, 2025, around 18:30 hours in the Mulela area of Chief Kakoma,” Mr. Siwale said.
It was explained that Zamwani Company Limited, which operates in timber production in Mwinilunga, harvests trees from the Mulela area in Kakoma chiefdom, where the deceased had been working and camping with his wife and child since September 2025.
“On October 25, at around 17:00 hours, it started raining, and the deceased and his family went into their tent. At around 18:30 hours, while it was still raining, the deceased was struck by lightning, k!lling him instantly, while his wife and child were unharmed,” Mr. Siwale stated.
He added that Police officers visited the scene and found the body of the deceased inside the tent where the incident occurred and during inspection, the body was found with burns on the head, right side of the chest, and genitals.
