October 26,2025 – Choma

On October 25, 2025, at about 20:45 hours, Choma Central Police Station received a report of aggravated robbery which occurred earlier the same day, around 20:00 hours, near the rail crossing in Choma’s Central Business District.

The report was made by Mr. Pelekelo Kapelwa, aged 28, of Shampande Compound, Choma, a mobile money agent, who stated that he was attacked by three unknown male persons while walking home in the company of his fiancée, aged 22. The assailants, who were armed with a pistol, robbed him of a bag containing cash amounting to K35,000 and five mobile phones valued at K7,800.

After the robbery, one of the suspects fired four gunshots in the air. With the help of members of the public, the suspect who had the firearm was apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm pistol marked Para Patented, serial number 92X0060265, type 92X. The firearm had run out of ammunition after the shots were fired.

The apprehended suspect was identified as Mr. Elvis Simweenda, aged 35, of Chongwe, Lusaka, and is currently detained in lawful police custody.

Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the stolen items, which have not yet been recovered, have been intensified. Members of the public with any information that may assist the investigation are urged to report to the nearest police station.
