Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mponsha, has confirmed the resignation of Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) Director General, Eng. Godfrey Mwiinga.

The confirmation came in Parliament following a point of order raised by Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament, Stephen Kampyongo, who inquired whether Eng. Mwiinga had fled the country and resigned amid corruption allegations.

Mr. Mponsha declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations, stating that it would be unethical to discuss the matter on the floor of the House.

He, however, confirmed that Eng. Mwiinga had officially stepped down, without disclosing the reasons for his resignation.

Eng. Mwiinga was appointed as ZEMA Director General on January 24, 2024.

The agency is currently being headed by Acting Director General, Karen Banda-Etondo.
