Hunger Hits Chama North – MP Appeals for Relief Food.By White Luhanga Chama North Member of Parliament Yotam Mtayachalo has appealed to the government to provide relief food and humanitarian assistance to areas affected by prolonged dry spells in his constituency.

Mr. Mtayachalo says this follows reports of hunger in some parts of his constituency.

He explained that the 2024/2025 farming season was severely impacted by prolonged dry spells, which undermined food security and left many families vulnerable.

Mr. Mtayachalo says some residents are surviving on mangoes and wild fruits, posing serious health and nutritional risks.

“I brought the situation to the attention of the Vice President and had written to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and the Vice President’s office a week ago, emphasizing the need for timely government intervention.” He said.

The most affected wards in Chama North Constituency include Kamphemba, Kaozi, Mwalala, Mphalausenga, Kalinkhu, and parts of Manthepa.
