A Youth in Solwezi Steps Up to Address Water Challenges in Local CommunitiesSolwezi – A young Community Development Advocate, Poho Kawina, has embarked on a direct community support initiative aimed at improving access to clean and safe drinking water in various communities around Solwezi.
This follows continued reports of residents struggling with water shortages, prompting Kawina to begin drilling community boreholes, starting with Kyalalankuba – one of Solwezi’s most densely populated areas.
Speaking after the handover of the first borehole, Kawina said he felt compelled to respond to a need that has affected families for years.
“Water access is not a luxury – it is a basic human need. If we wait for the perfect moment or perfect conditions, our people will continue to suffer. Sometimes, doing something small today is better than waiting for something big tomorrow.”
Community members expressed appreciation for the development, describing it as “timely” and “a blessing.”
The initiative will continue to roll out to other underserved areas in Solwezi as part of a wider community support programme under the Kawina Poho Foundation.
