LUSAKA, November 02, 2025 – The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) licensed 40 new manufacturers of beverages, food and non-food products covered by compulsory standards in the third quarter of 2025 in six provinces, thereby underscoring the Agency’s determination to protect public health and safety.
This is compared to 26 new manufacturers licensed by the Agency in the second quarter of 2025.
Lusaka province had the highest number of new licensed manufacturers at 26, followed by Central Province with seven, North Western with three, Eastern with two while Western and Southern Province recorded one each.
The new manufacturers have invested in the production of mealie meal, wheat flour, cooking oil, fruit flavoured drinks, jam, packaged drinking water, beverages, dishwashing liquid and stock feed.
ZCSA is urging potential producers of products covered by compulsory standards to engage the Agency before starting their production so that their entities are properly guided and equipped with necessary knowledge on regulatory requirements for their products of interest.
This will result in improved product safety, increased chances of success through compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as increased market access.
It is a legal requirement for any producer, importer and supplier of products covered by compulsory standards to be licensed by ZCSA for them to legally supply their products on the market.
ZCSA, a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, was established by the Compulsory Standards Act No.3 of 2017 to administer, maintain and ensure compliance with compulsory standards for the purpose of public safety and health, consumer and environmental protection.
Currently, ZCSA regulates 102 locally manufactured and imported products covered by compulsory standards including food products, beverages, chemical products, construction materials, packaging materials, household electrical and similar appliances, petroleum products, fertilizer, and used textile products, among other products.
