The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority – ZICTA has given mobile network operators and tower infrastructure providers 21 days to come up with concrete measures to improve the quality of electronic communication services in the country.
ZICTA Director General Eng. Collins Mbulo says the continued deterioration in service quality marked by dropped calls, poor internet connectivity, and unreliable service delivery poses a direct threat to Zambia’s digital transformation agenda.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Eng. Mbulo says the trend is undermining productivity, frustrating innovation, and eroding public trust in digital systems meant to empower citizens.
He has explained that ZICTA has issued mandatory and binding directives to all mobile network operators and tower infrastructure providers to expand network coverage, secure network continuity, and adopt sustainable energy solutions to enhance reliability.
Eng. Mbulo has added that Infratel and IHS Towers have been given 21 days to submit tangible and time-bound measures to ensure all communication towers are equipped with redundancy systems for improved network resilience.
He has warned that ZICTA will not hesitate to take regulatory action against any operator or provider that fails to meet the required quality of service standards.
