LUNDAZI MAN TAKES OWN LIFE FOLLOWING WIFE’S DEATH IN CHILDBIRTH A 26-YEAR-OLD man from Lundazi District has taken his own life following the death of his wife, who passed away just hours after giving birth to a baby boy.

Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, identifying the deceased as Lianitso Nkhoma.

He said Mr Nkhoma is believed to have ingested pesticide commonly used to preserve maize grain.

The tragedy occurred on November 4, 2025, at around 14:00 hours.

Mr Mweemba said the deceased’s vomit had a strong chemical smell, and tabl£ts suspected to be p£sticide were found beside his b0dy.

“Brief facts of the matter are that in October, Lianitso Nkhoma lost his wife, Susan Mbewe, who di£d shortly after delivering a baby boy. Since then, he had been expressing concern about how he would care for the infant,” Mr Mweemba said.

He added that Mr Nkhoma was found dead by Phillip Nali.

Police officers from Mwase Police Post visited the scene and conducted a physical inspection.

No visible injuries were found, and no foul play is suspected.

The body was handed over to relatives for burial after the family declined a post-mortem examination.

Mr Mweemba said an inquiry file has been opened, and the one-month-old baby is currently in the care of Mr Phillip Nali, the deceased’s uncle.
