A Lusaka mother in her 50s has become a symbol of determination and hope after choosing to return to school to complete her secondary education. Joyce Sakala, who previously passed her Grade 9 examinations with impressive results, is now sitting for her Grade 12 exams.
Her son, Michael Hakalaki, expressed immense pride in his mother’s courage to pursue education later in life and shared her story with many on his Facebook account.
“In her 50s she decided to give this school thing a try. She passed her Grade 9 exams with very good grades. She is now here sitting for her Grade 12 exams,” Hakalaki said.
“I am a proud son, hoping she sits down one day with her grandchildren to motivate them. All the best, Mum Joyce Sakala.”
As she writes her exams, family and well-wishers continue to cheer her on, with her son adding his heartfelt support.
