The former President of Malawi, Dr Bakili Muluzi, has announced that the mediation team he was leading to try to resolve the dispute between the Zambian government and Edgar Lungu’s family will not continue.

The mediation team had been working towards repatriating Lungu’s body to Lusaka.

Muluzi has thanked all stakeholders in the matter, including religious leaders and the South African government, for supporting efforts to get an agreement on the reparation of former President Edgar Lungu’s body.

The mediation team has withdrawn from the mediation process due to the inability to reach a conclusive pathway forward.

Muluzi says the mediation is formally returning the matter to the family, the Zambian people, the Zambian government and other stakeholders.
