Another fire has swept through Chamboli Market in Kitwe in the early hours of Saturday, destroying two shops and more than 25 makeshift stores.‎‎

Kitwe City Council Public Relations Manager Mwaka Nakweti says preliminary investigations indicate that an electrical short circuit may have sparked the fire.‎‎

Ms. Nakweti says fire brigades from the local authority and Mopani Copper Mines responded swiftly and managed to contain the inferno.‎‎

She says the losses recorded include electronics, groundnuts, and various other goods.

‎‎Ms. Nakweti adds that Police have since launched investigations into the incident.‎‎

This marks the fourth market fire recorded in Copperbelt Province since January this year.
