The report by Lucky Phiri about a man who was attacked and shot in the hand by thieves has gone viral on social media, largely because of the man’s unique accent, which is familiar in Zambia yet not entirely Zambian (i think). This has led to countless remakes, memes, and recreated videos, some making light of the situation, others using the audio to create content.
But in the middle of all this, very few have paused to acknowledge the journalist behind the story. For a journalist, this is a major win. Community stories are not easy to capture, and not everyone can execute them well. Yet for Lucky Phiri, it seems almost effortless. His ability to bring such stories to life deserves real recognition.
While people enjoy the content, it is important for the public to appreciate the work, skill, and dedication it takes for journalists to bring these narratives forward. Journalists deserve credit, applause, and appreciation and Lucky Phiri’s work is a perfect reminder of that.
So today, I simply want to congratulate and appreciate my brother, Lucky Phiri, for delivering a story that has captured the nation.
Lucky Phiri receive your flowers, bro.
